House for Whynot draws inspiration from the client’s Sri Lankan heritage. Materials stay simple and authentic, burnished concrete floors, brick walls combining new bricks and those salvaged from an old fireplace.
White-washed plywood lines the timber walls, letting the grain add patterning. Darkness and shadow are seen as positive. The plan reinforces a casual lifestyle, focused towards family, friends and community. A back stair becomes the pivot point linking a back door, studio and the existing living space.
